South Dakota State University Order of the Engineer Ceremony and luncheon
Application deadline – May 5, 2017
The Order of the Engineer is an organization created to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession. The Order is not a membership organization; there are never any meetings to attend or dues to pay. Instead, the Order fosters a unity of purpose and the honoring of one’s lifelong pledge to “Uphold Devotion to the Standards and Dignity of the Engineering profession.” Members accepting the obligation often wear a stainless steel ring on the small finger of their dominant hand.
We would like to formally invite you to join the Order of the Engineer by attending this year’s ceremony. At the ceremony you will receive a stainless steel ring and an Obligation Certificate. The ring is to be worn on the small finger of your dominant hand so it hits the table you are writing on to remind you to maintain the standards of engineering. There is a one-time fee associated with the ceremony and lifetime membership in the Order of the Engineer of $15.
This event is intended for undergraduate students earning engineering BS degrees in 2016-2017 or those who have earned them earlier. Graduate students who earned their undergrad degree in CE, ME, EE at Cal State LA, or any other ABET-accredited engineering programs are welcome to participate. The ceremony this year will be held in Golden Eagle Ballroom 1 at Cal State L.A. from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. outside of Golden Eagle Ballroom 1. The Order of the Engineer requires participating in an Oath ceremony, so all participants must be in attendance the entire program. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Golden Eagle Ballroom 1. You may not leave early; no late attendees will be accepted after 6:00 p.m., no exceptions. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and there will be a small reception after the ceremony. Due to limited space this ceremony will be for the engineering graduates only (no guests).
